- RUCD Head Start
- Mon - Fri: 8:00 - 4:00
Early Head Start (EHS) staff engage pregnant mothers and expectant families as they prepare for their new baby. Connecting families to comprehensive prenatal care, such as nutrition education, oral health care, and mental health supports, is all part of the process. Understanding what to expect during pregnancy and after the birth can help young families feel better prepared to face parenthood.

Head Start programs provide a learning environment that supports children’s growth in many areas such as language, literacy, and social and emotional development. Head Start emphasizes the role of parents as their child’s first and most important teacher.
Early Head Start programs provide similar services as preschool Head Start programs, but they are tailored for the unique needs of infants and toddlers. Early Head Start programs promote the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of infants and toddlers through safe and developmentally enriching caregiving. This prepares these children for continued growth and development and eventual success in school and life.

After you submit your application, a member of our team will contact you within five business days to talk about your family’s needs and explain our program options. If it looks like one of our programs is a good fit, we’ll guide you through each step with care and support.
We review our waitlists every week to ensure fair and timely placement. Your child’s age, location preference, and household income help us match your family with the best available option—whether that’s a classroom spot or support from an Early Head Start family educator. Applications are accepted year-round, but applying between February and May gives you the best chance for early placement.
